Best Trenchless Sewer Replacement Techniques in Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee being the largest city in in the state of Wisconsin, it is always exposed to the latest technology. With the introduction of trenchless sewer replacement techniques, getting a broken sewer line back in shape has been made easier. There are a family of methods, materials and equipment that can be used for replacement of existing underground sewer piping with minimal disruptions. Here is a look at the best trenchless sewer replacement techniques in Milwaukee, WI.

Mini-Horizontal Directional Drilling

This is a used in Milwaukee to install small diameter sewer lines that are in lengths of up to 600 ft or more. Pipes that can be installed using this technique include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), copper and steel. However, this is not the most common technique used in deep gravel-heavy soil and rocks. It is efficient in soft grounds.

The technique normally involves creating a pilot hole using fluid jetting, mechanical cutting or a combination of both in order to ream the hole. The new pipe product is then pulled back. The slurry used helps to stabilize the hole and reduce the friction experienced during pullback of a pipe.

This trenchless technique constructs pipelines to close tolerances for line and grade. Technicians in this case use remotely controlled, pipe-jacking, laser-guided system. This technique doesn’t require personnel entry. This process can be used for any pipeline diameters in lengths of up to 1,500 ft or greater.

Pipe Bursting

This is a common trenchless sewer replacement technique used in urban centers especially in areas where the area below the paved surface is congested with existing services. During the replacement process, the existing pipe in the ground becomes valuable as a guide

CIPP Process

This system enables sewer pipelines to be replaced from within by inserting lining material through an existing manhole or other entry points. The liner has a fabric reconstruction tube. It is normally impregnated with thermosetting resin. This material is then exposed to hot circulating steam or water which hardens into a structurally sound jointless pipe.

Apart from just repairing the deteriorated structure of a broken sewer line, the rehabilitation liner also reduces inflow and infiltration of unwanted surface and ground water into the system. It also reduces the possibility of effluent flowing into the ground or surface water. What you get is an improved flow characteristic of the system.

The FFP Process

This is a new system introduced in Milwaukee which can install folded plastic pipe relining products through a manhole entry. The system utilizes thermoplastic materials deformed from a circular shape. Normally, the FFP products are of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe or extruded PVC flattened or folded longitudinally.

This is a process where new pipeline of a smaller diameter is inserted into the defective pipe and the annulus grouted. It has the merit of simplicity and is relatively inexpensive. However, there can be significant loss of hydraulic capacity.

Spiral winding

This sewer replacement system involves using an extruded, rigid PVC strip of different widths and interlocking edges. A winding machine is used where strips are fed off reel into it to produce a spiral-wound tube. The machine has the ability to work from the bottom of a manhole .
